Leading Learning

Next week I have the privilege of attending the Trans Tasman Principal's Conference where the theme for the event is 'Leading Learning'. During these few days I will have the opportunity to listen to many world class presenters while networking with many principals from New Zealand and Australia. I look forward to sharing my experiences and new learning with my staff and continuing to grow TKP as a quality 21st Century Learning Environment.

Creativity

I have loaded a video link of Sir Ken Robinson as he talks about the importance of not losing sight of the place 'creativity' plays in our lives, but most importantly in the futures of our children. I hope you can find the time to watch this clip and enjoy listening to his message.

Term 3 already!!

Holidays are a well needed time to recharge and refocus for the term ahead. The first two days of these holidays saw all teaching staff attend a two day conference in Auckland - 'Cultivating the 21st Century Fluencies' - a very worthwhile two days with everyone taking something from the conference to bring back to their teaching practice and classroom programmes.
It was also time to work on our new website, very exciting. It is going to be great to have more people being able to add to the site especially through their classroom Blogs as they continue to be developed.
This year is a BIG one for schools in the political arena. Here at TKP we continue to strive to provide quality teaching and learning opportunities for all, never losing sight of 'We C.A.R.E.'
Welcome to Term 3, I look forward to another exciting term with you all!!

Dancing to success...

What great news to receive an email from the Asthma Foundation congratulating Te Kauwhata Primary School for winning the primary category of their recent Dance 4 Asthma competition. A fantastic whole school effort earning us an IPad! Our mufti day raised $283.00 for the Asthma Foundation, thank you to everyone who gave to this good cause.

From the judges, Aaron Gilmore, dance extraordinaire, and Tim Skedden, from Babysitters Circus included:

“We chose Te Kauwhata because it had lots of different scenes, we loved when they danced with the elderly, how they incorporated the community, they used lots of people and there was so much good, original dancing."

And from the Asthma Foundation ...
"So well done! The Team at the Foundation were also impressed at how the whole school was involved and the energy and enthusiasm that was evident throughout the video. Visually, it was fantastic."

What an exciting place to be!!

Catch up again soon....

Time doesn't stand still...

My last post signaled the term was halfway through and now it has well and truly ended and the holidays too are drawing to an end. What fantastic weather we have all enjoyed over the break, long may it continue!
What a great day our last Tuesday was as we celebrated our new school values of We C.A.R.E. It was exciting to receive our $500.00 cheque from Mark, Mr Muffin Break, and our 5 IPads sponsored by Farmlands, Huntly and presented by the branch manager Malcolm Lyster.
As a staff we will be exploring together the many ways in which IPads can support and enhance quality teaching and learning. Look out for our fortnightly tips and links to applications you can use at home as well!

Towards the end of last term Rob, our caretaker, along with many keen and able helpers completed another addition to our 'learning landscape' - our tyre area on the Pony field. The children are thinking up all kinds of ways they can use this area as part of their learning but in the meantime are enjoying the challenge of moving between tyres without touching the ground. Thanks Rob and thanks kids, mighty effort!

To be developed next - our petanque court! Watch this space...

Enjoy the last few days of the holidays, see you all on Monday

Half way already!

It is very hard to believe that we are already half way through term one! This week was triathlon week with most students taking part in this event on Thursday. For those competing in the cycle leg all bikes and riders were 'checked out' during Bikewise on Wednesday. Thank you Jen and crew! The weather held for us and a very successful day was held!

Congratulations to all participants and to our overall winners Alicia and Nathan!

Next week's newsletter will contain information about our exciting end to the term. Watch this space also for more!

I am quite happy to be inside working this weekend, out of the blustery winds, keeping warm and dry!
I hope you are managing this too.

These are changing times...

Back in touch

A warm, but rather (very) late welcome to 2012!

TKP is buzzing and coming to life with 'We C.A.R.E.' Our values being 'Communicate ~ Aspire ~ Respect ~ Engage'.

My challenge now is to keep this space up-to-date, I cannot be outdone by the exciting Blogs currently emerging from many of our classrooms.

Keep up the good work everyone - I look forward to some competition!

Catch you again soon
